The sight of the rusted hull tilted precariously on the rocks against the backdrop of the azure Mediterranean Sea is truly a spectacle to behold.
Location of the wreck and how to get there
The EDRO III shipwreck is located off the coast of Peyia, near the famous Sea Caves, around 18 kilometers from Paphos. To reach this intriguing site, you can either drive or take a local bus to Peyia. From Paphos, head towards Coral Bay and continue towards the Sea Caves. The shipwreck is a short walk from the main road, and the journey offers breathtaking coastline views.

Story of EDRO III shipwreck
The EDRO III, a cargo ship registered in Sierra Leone, met its fate on December 8, 2011. Caught in a fierce storm while en route from Limassol to Rhodes, the ship ran aground near Peyia. Thankfully, the crew was rescued, but the ship has remained stranded ever since. Over the years, it has transformed into an iconic landmark, drawing visitors eager to witness its eerie beauty.
The Peyia Municipality, responsible for the area where the ship is located, explored options to remove the wreck. However, due to the complexity and high costs involved, they eventually abandoned these plans. As a result, the ship continues to be a permanent fixture on the coast, adding to the unique allure of the region.

Why It’s Interesting

During my visit, I captured stunning images of the rusted vessel bathed in the golden hues of the setting sun, and I can’t wait to share them with you.
- Scenic Surroundings: The shipwreck is located in one of Cyprus’s most scenic areas. The nearby Sea Caves and crystal-clear waters make it ideal for a leisurely walk or a relaxing afternoon by the sea.
- Marine Life: The waters around the shipwreck are teeming with marine life, making it a popular spot for snorkeling and diving. Seeing fish darting around the ship’s submerged parts adds another layer of intrigue to the visit.
- Accessibility: Unlike many shipwrecks that are located in remote or inaccessible areas, the EDRO III is relatively easy to reach, making it an ideal day trip from Paphos.
- Atmosphere: There’s something uniquely atmospheric about the EDRO III. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a photography lover, or simply someone who appreciates unique travel experiences, the shipwreck offers a hauntingly beautiful experience.

I don't think they should let all the 4 by 4 vehicles drive over nature. They should park in the car park, not on the coastal path.
